I was recently having a conversation with another mom at kindergarten about leaving kids in the car or at home. Because neither of us had any clue what the rules are, I called the Prior Lake Police Dept and asked.
These are the guidelines the officer gave me:
In the car: use best judgement. There are no laws, but don't be dumb.
At home: per child protection services rules.
0-7-- never
8-9-- 2 hrs
10-14-- 12 hrs
14-17-- 24 hrs
No babysitting until age 12.
I just thought it was interesting.
Very cool. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteVery useful. Sounds about right--though I don't know if I would've/should've been trusted to be home alone for 12 hours when I was 10.
