One of those days

Oh my goodness, I didn't feel crabby when I woke up and when we all sat down for waffle for breakfast but somewhere between the kids dumping water all over the kitchen floor and the front gate not opening, I got super cranky.

I had a good cry on the bed while Ivy held my hand and sang "Twinkle Twinkle." Jamey just got real close to my face and said, "Stop it. Stop crying."

I'm looking forward to a bath, some Froyo, and some stitching.

A real train and Vizcaya Gardens

Because Jamey is so in love with riding trains (which we learned getting to the Miami Half Marathon), we decided to take the Tri-Rail and MetroRail to Vizcaya Gardens in Miami.

I was nervous about the train ride; heck, I was nervous about getting tickets. I took the kids to the train station on Thursday so someone could talk me through the whole process. Turns out, you buy train tickets from an ATM. So, standing in front of the machine, I called Tri-Rail customer service, and a nice guy talked me through it. And you can't buy tickets for the train until the day you are riding the train.

Saturday morning, we got up, got the train station and had an exciting time waiting for the train and wishing it would come faster. The ride was fun--the kids loved it.

Vizcaya (as Jeremy would say "was as fun as a garden could be") was great. I liked touring the mansion and walking through the gardens. The cousins came over to traipse for a while, and we all had lunch.

Then we had the walk back to the train station and another fab ride home. Jamey fell asleep once we got in the van--the ride from the train station to the apartment is about 2 minutes. He even slept through me changing him from clothes to swimming suit and putting sunscreen on him.

PS--we did this all without a stroller. And I did the train museum with the two kids without a stroller. They're awesome and slept like rocks!

Gold Coast Train Museum

On Friday, I took the kids to the Gold Coast Train Museum. We've been there before, and it's not a super awesome place. But I figured because Jamey goes nuts for Thomas, he'd like climbing on the trains, riding a train, and playing with model trains all day. I was right; he did!

He pretty much loved every second of our visit, and Ivy had just as much fun.

Sonny's Famous Steak Hoagies

Today, we had lunch at Sonny's Famous Steak Hoagies in Hollywood, again, a place featured on Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives.

It was excellent, awesome, and we will go back again. Super yummy sandwiches. Jeremy had steak & cheese. I had hot ham & cheese. The kids had turkey & cheese. Delish! Great service, good food, nice price.

Grampa's Bakery

Because it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network, we had lunch at Grampa's Bakery (http://www.grampasbakery.com) in Dania yesterday.

Overall assessment: Not good.

The service was terrible. The kids never got their drinks. The server forgot part of my meal. I never got a coffee refill.

The table was small and crowded full of all the things they thought were important for us to have, like some chili sauce and 14 different containers of sugar substitute and jelly.

The food was mediocre at best. My 1/2 size biscuits and gravy was cold. Jeremy ordered an egg sandwich and got no sides. The kids' pancakes were big enough to feed all four of us.

We'd never recommend anyone go there. Even for the thrill of seeing Guy Fieri's autographed picture on the wall.

March for Hunger 5k

We did the March for Hunger 5k on Hollywood Beach this morning with Jeremy's sister and her two kids.

First of all, I was planning to walk it--here at 16 weeks pregnant, pushing the kids in the jogger. I haven't been jogging in since December. In the last month or so, I've started doing some longer walks again and I finished a Wii Active 30-Day Challenge. It's not like I was training for a race.

However, Ivy wanted to run with Dylan, and I had to keep up. Who knew a 7 year old and 3 year old could be so fast? They didn't run the whole time, but enough to keep me motivated to "go faster" as Jack kept hollering at the stroller pushers.

So, I'm pretty satisfied with my 40.57 finish.
